SPECIAL BOOK LAUNCH NEWSLETTER

I have officiated hundreds of weddings. I’ve stood inches from trembling hands, from the look that says I choose you, for real. And I’ve been married to the same man, for more than two decades. So when I tell you this book comes from real life, I mean it. Not the staged version with the perfect angles. The version that heals, hurts, bends, listens, and grows.

That’s roughly how I opened last night, standing in my own backyard, in front of the people who made this book come alive. I want to bring you into it, because you’re part of why it exists too.

Why the campfire

I’ve spent years standing at altars, and years watching what happens after. Couples find their way back to me, months later, sometimes years, and they tell me what happened once the cake was cut and the dance floor emptied. Those silent car rides. The small misunderstandings that felt bigger than expected. And underneath every single conversation, the same quiet question: Is this normal? Am I doing this right? Is being in love supposed to carry all of this on its own?

I wrote this book because the answer is no.

These experiences stayed private, wrapped in pride and a perception of marital bliss and nobody wanted to be the one to lift the veil. There’s respect for each other’s dignity underneath that silence. Nobody wants to break the trust of what happens behind closed doors, and I appreciate that protective instinct. What I don’t think married couples consider, is that honesty between couples could actually help other couples survive and thrive where they otherwise may not.

I’m in a unique position as an officiant. I get to witness the beginning, and then, so often, the years that follow. And what I kept seeing was the same gap, again and again. Couples struggling in ways they never had to, simply because nobody had ever taught them the tools for a marriage that lasts.

This book is the manual that was missing.

The campfire mentioned in this book isn’t decoration. It’s the place I return to again and again, because it’s where the most honest conversations happen. Fire can be seen as sacred, wild, dangerous, beautiful, reassuring, and mesmerising to look at. Defences come down. Nobody’s performing. People are relaxed, and are present with each other. That’s what I want for every couple who reads this book, that quality of presence, that willingness to sit close and be honest.

What I read last night

If we were sitting together near a campfire right now, you and your partner tucked under a blanket, hands wrapped around warm mugs, I would tell you this: marriage is not built in grand moments, it is built in the way you return to each other when nobody is watching.

Marriage rarely breaks in dramatic moments. More often, it strains, thins, or drifts in ordinary ones.

This book will not give you a script. It will offer a compass, how to find your way back to each other, again and again, in the seasons when life gets loud or overwhelming.

How I closed the night

The people you love are worth the work. The return is always worth it. And every single one of you already knows how to love your partner, you just needed someone to remind you that hard - doesn’t mean broken.

Pride and ego don’t protect a marriage. They pull at the seams of the very thing you’re trying to hold together. Lead with love. Lead with compassion. Listen. Give the benefit of the doubt before you give your opinion. In every hard moment, in every quiet drift, in every misunderstanding that feels bigger than it is, you are on the same team. Always.

One thing to try this week

Notice one ordinary moment today, a car ride, a dish left in the sink, a text that landed wrong, and choose curiosity instead of criticism. That’s the whole practice. The ordinary return that becomes a rhythm rather than a grand gesture.

Date Night Dare

Read the introduction together tonight, one of you reading it out loud, the other just listening. It only takes a few minutes, and there’s something different about hearing it in a voice you love instead of reading it alone. Consider it the beginning of a bedtime ritual, reading it together.

The book is waiting for you at MyLoveForALifetime.com. If it’s meant something to you already, even just this Love Note, I’d be so grateful if you shared it, as a gift or a simple recommendation, with a couple you love.

With love,

Nikki
